I am studying Japanese and have recently taken the N4 JLPT test. One of the tools I have used to help me feel confident enough to try the N4 is a website called Read the Kanji - readthekanji.com.
Read the Kanji is a pay to usewebsite BUT it is free for beginners! What do I mean by that? - If you are studying for the N5 and just want to use it to help you learn the N5 kanji, hiragana or katakana, you can do that all for free! Once you get past N5 in the JLPT test however, you will need to pay to get access to the higher grade decks.
It is a kanji flash card website and is a really great tool to help learn how to read kanji as it tests you with each card (you have to type the answer in the box for each card). Really easy to use and you can, if you want, get through many cards quickly. However you can take your time and read the full sentence as each kanji is given in context (ie. in a sentence).
