In this activity, students direct questions to one student about another student (to move from "do you" to "does she"). The activity is anchored around a portrait students get 5 seconds to draw. And that's what makes the game. It's a lot of fun!
|Level:||Junior high grade 1|
|Works with:||Does Kenji like English?|
|Class size:||medium to large|
You will need:
- scrap paper (A4 cut into quarters)
First I describe this game as a three stage activity. Then I do it as a three stage activity. It keeps everything moving smoothly and helps students understand that it's a progression.
- Stage 1 - Self-Intro
Students make groups of (max) 4.
One by one, they introduce themselves with three pieces of information.
"I like (food).
"I play (sport).
"I have (brother/ sister/ pet).
- Stage 2 - Draw a Face
Hand out paper to students.
Students select someone from their group and they have 5 seconds to draw that person.
- Stage 3 - Question Time
In each group, one student shows their sketch. One by one, the other three take turns guessing who it is by asking "Does he ~." questions. (Getting a yes answer earns 1 point, if that is relevant.)
The first students asks about food, the second about sports, and the third about family or pets.
- As you explain each step, demonstrate it for the class. Better yet, have the HRT demonstrate. They can do the self-introduction, then you can draw a 5 second sketch of them while the class counts down for you. Finally, have the class ask each of the three questions. After this, they'll know exactly what to do in each stage.
This activity works well as review for Sunshine 1 Program 6 Section 2.
