Janken losers have to jump, jump, jump! This activity may or may not be favorably received by your students, depending on their disposition. It'd work better with more active, happy students.

You will need:

  • nothing


  1. Students walk around and find a partner. Do janken (paper, scissors, rock).
  2. The winner decides what the loser has to do and delivers three directives (in the form of rules).
    "Janken losers have to turn around, touch their head, and jump.
    (See list of actions below.)
  3. The loser follows the directions and the round is complete.
    Find a new partner and repeat.


  • Provide a list of actions for students to refer to on the blackboard. You can also create this list with students input. Actions might include:
    • run
    • jump
    • turn around
    • sit down
    • stand up
    • touch your head
    • smile
    • clap
    • etc...


This game is quick, fun, and active and works well as a warm-up to a more focused reading or writing activity. It's suggested as practice for Sunshine 2 Program 3 Section 2.
